Fishing Breaks

The popularity of angling in the Conwy Valley can be attributed not only to the good runs of salmon and brown trout but also to the excellent runs of sea trout (sewin).

Apart from the obvious pleasures and challenges posed by rod and line you will also be afforded the opportunity to relax and take in the visual delights housed within the valley, surrounding woodland and moorland settings all of which combine to envelope you in breath taking beauty.

Fishing River Llugwy Betws y CoedSalmon are know to have bred in the Conwy, Lledr and Llugwy rivers for centuries, but spring running fish were only introduced in 1920. This came about thanks to Mr Connell Smith who obtained eggs from Thurso in Scotland and introduced them to a hatchery he’d built on the Afon Lledr. A decade later these fish along with their progeny were returning to the river in April and May – and continue doing so to this day.

Anyone aged 12 or over fishing on lakes, canals or rivers in England and Wales, must have an Environment Agency Rod Fishing Licence, available from Post Offices. In addition to holding a licence you must have the permission of the holder of the fishing rights. To check fishing seasons and byelaws, call (0645) 333 111.

Day, weekly and season permits are available to fish the Association Water on the River Lledr. Day tickets are on selected waters only and weekly tickets Monday to Friday are available.
